Bismillahi Rahamanir Raheem:
Asalaamu alaykum,
ALLAH Ta’ala says:
“And command your
family to perform Salaat and you, yourself be steadfast (in its performance)”.
Rasoolullah (SAW) said:
Salaat is the Mi’raaj (ascension) of
the Mu’mineen. Further that it is the
best of all that has been ordained by ALLAH Ta’ala!
“Verily Salaat prevents one from
shameful and forbidden things; and the remembrance of Allah is greatest”
(Qur’an 29:45).
In addition to the Fardh salaat that we make 5 times daily, there are other Nafl salaat that we can make when we are in need or want to be close to ALLAH Azza Wa Jal. The following are some of the Nafl Salaat we can make:
Salaatut Tahajjud:
Tahajjud Salaat is performed in the latter part of the
night. After having gone to bed one should rise late in the night and engage in this wonderful Ibadaat, which has
always been the practice of the great pious people. The minimum number of raka’ts in Tahajjud is
four (4) and the Maximum is twelve (12) raka’ats. However it can also be performed in two (2)
rak’ats. The niyaat for this Salaat is
simply to intend that one is performing Tahajjud. Rasullulah (SAW) said that Tahajjud Salaat is
a medium of gaining nearness to ALLAH Ta’ala.
At the same time is it the expiation for sins while it strengthens one’s
will power in the fight against the lowly nafs.
Every Muslim should therefore, make the greatest effort to perform this
Salaat. Tahajjud is the time when the
servant is closest to ALLAH Ta’ala. There are no specific Surahs to be recited in
this Salaat.
Salaatut Taubah:
Salatut Taubah consists of two (2) raka’ts , which should be
performed after one has committed a sin.
After performing these two (2) raka’ts one should raise hands sincerely
and humbly in Dua and repent profusely.
If a major sin is committed, then the following Dua should be recited:
(ALLAHUMMA MAGHFIRATUKA AU-SA’U MIN
THUNOOBE WA RAHMATUKA ARJAA INDEE MIN AMALEE)
(O ALLAH, Your forgiveness is far
more extensive than my sins and Your forgiveness is far more promising unto me
that my good actions).
It is mentioned in the Hadeeth that a person who had
committed a sin or many sins came to Rasoolullah (SAW), crying: “Alas, my
sins!” Rasoolullah (SAW) taught him the
above Dua and made him repeat it three (3) times. When he did, Rasoolullah (SAW) said to him:
“Now rise and go. ALLAH has forgiven
you”.
Salaatul Haajat:
This Salaat is performed when one is in need or in difficulty. Rasoolullah (SAW) said that whoever is in
need of something should make a perfect Wudhu and perform two (2) raka’ts
Salaat. Praise ALLAH and recite
Durood. Thereafter recite the following
Dua:
(LAA ILAHA ILLAL-LAAHUL HALEEMUL
KAREEM. SUBHAANAL LAAHI RABBIL ARSHIL
AZEEM. ALHAMDULLILAH RABBIL
AALAMEEN. AS’ALUKA MOOJIBATI
RAHMATIKA. WA ‘AZAA ‘IMA MAGHFIRATIKA. WAL ISMATA MIN KULLI THANBIN. WAL GHANEEMATA MIN KULLI BIRRIN. WAS SALAAMATA MIN KULLI ITHMIN. LAA TADA’ LEE THANBAN ILLA GHAFARTAHOO WALAA
HAMMAN ILLA FARRAJTAHOO WALAA HAAJATAAN HIYA LAKA RIDHAN ILLA QADHAYTAHAA YAA
ARHAMAR RAHIMEEN).
(There is no deity besides ALLAH, the
Most Forbearing and Kind, Who is unblemished and Lord of the Great Throne, so
praise be to ALLAH – the Cherisher of the worlds. I do seek all causes of the grant of Your
mercy and forgiveness and I do seek thorough escape from sin, a full share of
virtuous deeds and complete safety from inequity. O ALLAH, let not a single sin of mine be left
out from being forgiven, nor worry and pain from being relieved, nor need which
is agreeable to You from being fulfilled, O You Most Merciful and
Compassionate).
Salaatul Istikhaarah
“Istikhaarah” means to seek goodness. It means the way of seeking advice and
goodness from ALLAH Ta’ala. Salaatul
Istikhara consists of two (2) raka’ts.
When one intends to embark on any project e.g. trade, journey, and
marriage etc. then one should seek the advice of ALLAH Ta’ala, and make Dua for
protection and goodness. In Sha ALLAH,
you will not regret if you make this Salaat and decide thereafter whether to
proceed with the intended project or cancel it.
This Salaat consists of two (2) raka’ts.
It is performed at night just before going to bed. Once the Salaat has been performed one should
go to bed immediately. Do not indulge in
any activity after Salaatul Istikhaarah.
Recite any Surah in these raka’ts.
After the Salaat make a fervent Dua, with much concentration. The Dua which should be recited after this
Salaat is as follows:
(ALLAHUMMA INNE ASTAKHEERUKA BI I’LMIKA WA ASTAQDIRUKA BIQUDRATEEKA WA
AS-ALOKA MIN FADHLIKAL A’ZEEM. FA INNAKA
TAQDERUWALAA AQDERU WA TA’ALAMU WALA A’LAMU WA ANTA ALLAMUL GHUYOOB. ALLAHUMMA IN KUNTA TA’LAMU ANNA HAA ZAL AMR (say
what you seek advice with) KHAYROON LEE FEE DEENEE WA MA-AASHEE WA
AAQEBATE AMREE. FAKDURHU LEE WA YASSIRHU
LEE THUMMA BAARIK LEE FEEHEE. WA INKUNTA
TA’LAMU ANNA HAAZAL AMR SHARROON LEE FEE
DEENE WA MAA AA’SHEE WA AQEBATE AMREE.
FA ASRIFHU ANNEE WA ASRIFNEE ANHU.
WA AQDIR LIYAL-KHAYRA HAYTHO KANA THUMMA ARDHINEE BIHI).
O! ALLAH, Behold I ask of You the
good through Your knowledge, and ability through Your Power, and beg (Your
favour) out of Your infinite Bounty. For
surely you have Power; I have none. You
know all; I know not. You are the Great
Knower of all things. O! ALLAH if in
your Knowledge this matter be good for my faith (Deen) for my livelihood, and
for the consequences of my affairs, then ordain it for me, and make it easy for
me, and bless me therein. But if in Your
Knowledge this matter be bad for my faith, for my livelihood, and for the
consequences of my affairs, then turn it away from me, and turn me away therefrom,
and cause me to be pleased therewith.
